Do I Need a DBS Check to Hire/Supervise Bouncy Castles?

May 15, 2026

In the bouncy castle/ Inflatable Industry it is not a legal requirement to have a DBS (formally CRB) check to supervise inflatables and therefore organisations cannot make this a requirement for bookings.

This is because any staff member supervising is there to supervise the inflatables/equipment – checking for safe use / anchorage / blower etc throughout use or controlling amount of users on the inflatable at one time for safe use. The supervision of the children is still the responsibility of the parent/carer, teachers or event organisers etc.

Because of this it is actually considered illegal for organisations to insist on a DBS check for a role that is not eligible.

However, despite the fact it is not needed there are lots of hirers that still choose to get one to offer peace of mind in situations where it is requested but the responsibility of the supervision of the children/users would still be for the guardians.

So you can get a DBS check if this is your preference but it is not a legal requirement and shouldn’t affect your ability to get bookings if you don’t have one.
